Our Technology
Developed under a DARPA-funded initiative, our patent-pending process uses a selective pyrothermal approach to isolate and refine valuable metals from highly varied e-scrap mixtures. Achieving purities of 95% or higher in either a metallic or non-metallic sponge phase, this rapid, non-equilibrium method can be started or stopped quickly, reducing energy consumption by up to 90% compared to traditional technologies.
By eliminating harsh chemicals and relying on electricity with inert additives, our system is kinder to the environment and simpler to scale—from small batch processing to large continuous operations. This adaptability positions EGT Metals to secure a leading foothold in emerging secondary recycling streams.
The E-Scrap Landscape
Electronic scrap, or e-waste, includes discarded devices that contain both valuable and hazardous materials. Although e-waste accounts for just 3–5% of the two billion tons of municipal solid waste generated each year, it remains the fastest-growing waste stream worldwide—surpassing 65 million tons in 2024 alone.
Major e-waste producers include China, the United States, India, Japan, Brazil, Germany, the UK, and Mexico. While the presence of hazardous components complicates disposal, e-waste is also a multi-billion-dollar resource for rare and valuable elements—when recycled responsibly. Currently, only around 17% of e-waste is recycled, highlighting the immense opportunity for novel recovery methods.
